The seen. crew leaves for London town tomorrow to enjoy three days and nights of Notting Hill Carnival madness.
Listen the latest Guardian Music Weekly podcast below in case you want to warm-up yourself or to check what you miss in case you can not make it to NHC:
This week, the podcast team have slapped on their baseball caps, William Hague style, and are sipping from a coconut in preparation for this weekend’s Notting Hill carnival.
We meet DJ Norman Jay who tells us about his favourite carnival memories and how his life changed after the riots in 1976. Then we take a trip down to Carnival Village to see how preparations are going. And we’ve got an exclusive track from the Jamaican band The Jolly Boys.

While today, Nikes and Clarks often are international rudeboys’ footwear of choice, especially in the 70s and 80s, many Reggae, Punk and Ska aficionados skanked in Doc Martens boots. Actually, many Punks and Ska people rock »Docs« up until today.
The brand turns 50 this year and asked 10 artists to deliver 10 exclusive tracks for that more or less special occasion. 7 of them have been put out so far.
After hours spent crunching real tape loops and experimenting with the dubbing to get exactly the right »stoned, spacey feel«, the production on the track sparkles (via Dr. Martens).
Even more than the track itself, I enjoy the clip to it which was directed by none other than Don Letts:
It was an interesting project as I’d never done animation before and I felt like challenge. I’m usually very »hands on« my projects but with this it was a case of »hands off« and »heads on«. In other words I had to convey what was in my mind to the animators and let them do their thing (via Dr. Martens).

Five years in the making, the »Guns’n'Roses of Reggae Rap«’s album »International Rudeboy« is finally about to drop. Judging from the preview it is definitely worth the wait.
King Megatrip »Solid Steel Radio Show 6/8/2010 Part 3 + 4«
Megatrip broke with the regular Solid Steel format with an all reggae/ragga/jamaica-centric mix ideal for a summer BBQ. Big Youth, Bob Andy and Major Lazer turn up the heat, while Capleton and Lady Saw keep an eye on the sausages!
Two hours of d latest, baddest n hypest dancehall n island pop outta twentyten! With »guest appearances« from Twins of Twins, Kartel, Chi Ching Ching n Ricky Trooper.
From the day Gabe showed me his early scribbles for the »Venom« shirt, I always wished I would see Mad Cobra wearing the final product.
It looks like this dream will come true as our friend Marox sent us the following audio message from Cobra himself who he met just recently at the Reggaejam festival. Mad!
